Nourish L.A.

The Hidden Market is a new outdoor market, whose goal is to raise funds for select non-profits.

This month we are sponsoring Nourish L.A., a Los Angeles 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Nourish L.A. recycles food surplus that otherwise would be going to waste.

They partner with other organizations, restaurants, bakeries, & grocery stores to redistribute good food to those in need.

However, Nourish L.A. is more than a food distribution center – it’s a community. They have a large network of volunteers who help save food from being trashed, helping to clean up the food, sort it from food that’s going bad (which is utilized by being composted into nourishing the growth of more food!) and bag it for the food drives. Volunteers also aid in the set up that is akin to a farmers’ market with tents, tables, crates, signs, hauling the food in, and creating the recyclable compost area.

Nourish L.A. saves many other resources from being wasted, too, even reusing paper and plastic bags, egg cartons, rubber bands, and boxes & giving away unsold flowers as “love tokens” with each bag of food.

As well, they have worked to create “karma gardens” by setting up unused land on enlisted personal property to develop food gardens. And in exchange the owners pay it forward and help others create gardens.

Nourish L.A. is a fabulous organization to stand behind and work with. As of last year they moved over 3 million pounds of food for over 200,000 people with a force of over 2,000 volunteers.

The Hidden Market is proud to recognize and support their efforts as they continue to expand and deliver their good works, while also connecting the vast Los Angeles community with each other as neighbors & friends.
