Japanese Garden – Mon-Thurs, 9am-3pm; Newly reopened landscaping loop of 3 distinct gardens.

Mid-City

Hospital of Emotions – Open Daily. Closing July 31st. Close to MacArthur Park near Alvarado & Beverly. 70 artists take over more than 80 hospital rooms across four full floors, creating site-specific immersive environments. Each room exploring different human emotions.

South Coast / Palos Verdes

SOAR Tropical Butterflies – Daily, 9am-4pm, South Coast Botanical Gardens

Trolls – Daily, South Coast Botanical Gardens. Danish artist Thomas Dambo’s massive troll sculptures—which he makes from reclaimed wood and hides in nature to encourage people to get out and enjoy the outdoors. 12 of the whimsical figures, can be glimpsed with your general admission ticket.

Beach Movie Nights – Dockweiler Youth Center, Friday nights Jun 5 – Aug 28; various showings start at 8pm. 12505 Vista del Mar, Playa del Rey. $3 Parking after 6pm. Free family-friendly movie screenings on the sand, by the waves, and under the stars! Be sure to bring blankets and bundle up. BRING YOUR OWN LOUNGE (chair, towels, or blanket)

North Hollywood

Magic Mic – 1st & 3rd Thursdays, Doors at 6pm, Sign ups at 6:30pm, Show at 7pm. The Witch’s Cottage; Open mic for all. 12 slots per night. 10 minutes per slot. Various other events usually at 6pm on weekdays and weekends.

Hollywood Fringe Festival –  various dates & locations. June 4 – 28. hundreds of different shows—most are around $15 a ticket or less, and some free. Expect one-person shows, new musicals, comedies and edgy dramas to descend on Hollywood once again

Cinespia Cemetery Screenings – weekly night screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. pack a picnic (yes, booze is allowed), toting folding chairs, picnic blankets, snack spreads and lots of booze. Pose in the photo booth and enjoy DJ sets, dance parties and all sorts of other magical mischief that’d otherwise be strictly forbidden behind the cemetery gates.

Fairfax District

Off the Menu: Dining & Drawing in L.A. – Thurs-Sun. Artist Gary Baseman first solo exhibition in the city in over a dozen years. This love letter to L.A. dining, featuring 40 of the artist’s “action” drawings doodled on menus while dining at local restaurants, from Musso and Frank to Canter’s.

DTLA

Grand Performances – Saturdays at 6pm. DTLA at Olive & 4th St. Free Concert series. Some Fridays, too.
