Juneteenth Santa Monica – Sat 20, 1pm-7pm; Virginia Avenue Park. Alongside the regular Saturday Farmers Market 8am-2pm. A rich mosaic of Black musical genres, including an interactive drum workshop with Project KnuckleHead, soul, funk & jazz performances. Community resource booths, food trucks, local Black-owned small businesses & vendors, art activities and more.

Venice Fest – Sat 20, 12pm-8pm; Mar Vista on Venice Blvd. Multiple stages for live music, as well as DJs, fitness and lots of food, plus a family and kids zone. Along Grandview & Mountain View (Centinela Blvd) Please be aware of traffic!

Getty Summer Solstice – Jun 20, 11am-3pm; Getty Center. FREE. Enjoy live jazz on the terrace, tarot readings, craft workshops—from carving potatoes to making cyanotype sun prints with Meztli Projects—and choral performances featuring the Sound as Light Choir, as well as summer treats.

Museum Row Fairfax/La Cienega

LACMA Block Party – Saturday, June 20, from 10am to 7pm, includes free admission to the entire museum, as well as, guided gallery tours, art activities for kids, DJ sets, food. Ending in the Art Parade from 6 to 7pm which may include carryable sculptures, costumes, group banners, inflatables and all sorts of performances (all human-powered, and all appropriate for an all-ages audience).

Red Bull Midsummer – Jun 20, 10a-10p; Hollywood Roosevelt & Global 28-hour event. Three continents and seven cities—Tokyo, Mumbai, Vienna, Berlin, London, New York and finally Los Angeles. aura readings, flash tattoos, jewelry-making, gaming activations, artist merch pop-ups and even a community run.

Queer Mercado – Starting June 20, 10a-4p, & 3rd Saturdays: July 18, Aug 15; First-of-its-kind, queer Latino cultural celebration that will bring drag, DJs, live music, cocktails, taquitos and more to Olvera Street on the third Saturday of each month. The community-run marketplace will host cultural activations including live art, a fashion showcase and 40 curated vendors, from local painters to queer designers to ceramicists.

Hollywood Fringe Festival –  various dates & locations. June 4 – 28. hundreds of different shows—most are around $15 a ticket or less, and some free. Expect one-person shows, new musicals, comedies and edgy dramas to descend on Hollywood once again

Cinespia Cemetery Screenings – weekly night screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. pack a picnic (yes, booze is allowed), toting folding chairs, picnic blankets, snack spreads and lots of booze. Pose in the photo booth and enjoy DJ sets, dance parties and all sorts of other magical mischief that’d otherwise be strictly forbidden behind the cemetery gates.

Off the Menu: Dining & Drawing in L.A. – Thurs-Sun. Artist Gary Baseman first solo exhibition in the city in over a dozen years. This love letter to L.A. dining, featuring 40 of the artist’s “action” drawings doodled on menus while dining at local restaurants, from Musso and Frank to Canter’s.
